If I lied...

by mikelewis

If I were to scream "Fire" in a crowded room and people panicked; stampeding towards the exit, bodies trip and stumble, many are hurt, a few have died. If I had lied and screamed "Fire", and people died, would you hold me responsible?

If I lied... sweet nothings of love... promises of cleanliness... trust me, trust me... and you fuck me and catch my disease... am I responsible? Can you hold me accountable?

If I lied and said it wasn't loaded... and he died... would I be to blame?

If I were to lie and maybe one million were to die... what then?

What then, America...

What then; if I were to lie... would you lie with me?

Would you say it was okay... that I didn't mean it... that I didn't know any better... that my heart was in the right place...

Would you lie with me if I could promise you riches beyond your wildest imagination... any fantasy, any dream, any vision is yours if you just lie with me...

Or just maybe, I'll use a little truth against you... what is it that shames you? Shall I expose you... shall I turn my malicious intent upon you and devour you? I will single you out from the herd... weak and alone, my prey frightened unto death.

A lie can save you... besides, it's not really a lie. It's really just an alternative view of the truth... a clarified reality... an enlightened perspective... see, it's just one little ol' mockingbird... it's only a small sin to kill it.

If I lied and people died... and you lied with me... and more people died... should humanity, history and honor hold you accountable if there be no God... yet limitless woe unto thee if there be.

How about it America...

Will you lie with me?
